Job Description:
We are seeking a responsible and skilled Estimator for a well construction company in Bakersfield, CA. The primary function of this role is to provide accurate, timely, and complete estimates for civil work prime contracts with public agencies and private work with focus on grading, paving, cold planning, Striping and Signage and miscellaneous.
- Temp to Hire
- Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
- Pay Rate: $30.00-$35.00/HR (Depending on Experience)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor junior Estimators
- Able to accurately prepare timely estimates, including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
- Coordinate quantity take-off with take-off department, highlight job specifics including phasing, details, jobsite conditions, etc.
- Review job specifications, drawings, schedules, soil reports and other documents to prepare accurate scope and pricing
- Ability to discuss and negotiate scope, pricing, inclusions, and exclusions with general contractors and owners

- High School Diploma or GED
- Strong Computer Skills – MS Office applications
- Previous construction management experience
- Previous estimating experience (ideally with concrete/Asphalt)
- The ability to work efficiently in a team environment
- Ability to establish and maintain client relations
- Proven problem-solving abilities and excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong work ethic, team player, ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to plan, organize, and control all established Bid processes
- Itemize and quantify all incidentals necessary in preparing the bid packages including sub-contract work, equipment rental, tools, and supplies
- Manage take off process, delegate to team as appropriate
- Prepare RFI’s
- Perform budget pricing from conceptual design with alternatives
- Determine and price value-engineered alternatives to plans and specs
- Determines Project Estimated Value for projects and identify ways to achieve at a profit. (Opportunities in the Project)
- Selects quotes to use from Subcontractors and Vendors. Develop detail scope and Bill of Materials for Vendor and Subcontractor Packages
- Develop Budgets
- Responsible for Scope Letter: Provide content for and in some cases create the scope letter
- Develop Contents and input into Bid Forms (Prime Bid)
- Final Review of Electronic Bidding System for Accuracy and completeness
- Reviews Estimate Turnover packages prior to being sent to Owner
- Prior to issuing of formal bid package, provide the Owner a detailed review of Scope, technical requirements, and pricing of the estimated bid package
- Ensure all Bid Files are complete for bid close out
- Submit Final Bids to Client, work with them on Questions
- Project interviews and Presentations
- After successful bid (win), meet with the project team to explain estimate, scope, quotes for successful transition
- Implement measures to increase efficiency
- Review and understand thoroughly the plans and specifications for each Bid Project assigned
- Work through others on the Bid Team to complete bid process from start to finish
- Develop junior estimators into future leaders
