Exact Staff is hiring for our client an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Technician to join a busy accounting department in Bakersfield, CA. This Accounting Technician role is ideal for a professional with strong accounting fundamentals who enjoys working with financial data, maintaining accurate records, and supporting day-to-day accounting operations.
Pay, Schedule, and Location
- Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Location: Bakersfield, CA
- Job Type: Temp-to-Hire
Accounting Technician Responsibilities
- Perform accounting and financial office support work including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cashiering, and utility billing
- Review invoices and supporting documentation and prepare accounts payable for processing
- Maintain subsidiary ledgers; audit, reconcile, and post accounting data as required
- Generate general ledger entries and assist with account maintenance
- Prepare and reconcile month-end reports to balance with the general ledger
- Enter, retrieve, and maintain financial data; prepare reports using established formats
- Prepare and update reports and forms requiring arithmetic calculations
- Research and compile information from multiple sources to complete forms and reports
- Provide information to staff or the public regarding policies, procedures, and regulations
- Prepare listings of delinquent utility accounts and notify customers; coordinate service discontinuation when required
- Open new service accounts, determine deposits, and assign account numbers
- Enter utility payments and meter readings into the system
- Perform cashiering duties, including accepting payments, fees, and deposits for utilities, licenses, permits, citations, and services
- Receive and process monies collected by other departments
- Prepare receivable receipts, balance daily cash receipts, generate audit reports, and prepare bank deposits
- Perform general office and clerical support duties
- Proofread and review materials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Maintain and process accounting-related forms and records
- Operate standard office equipment
- May serve as backup for a supervisor or assist in supervising accounting staff
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Accounting Technician Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent recognized by the State of California
- Business school coursework or college-level coursework in bookkeeping, accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field required
- Associate’s degree or two (2) full academic years at an accredited college or university preferred
- Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in an accounting or finance office environment
- Prior experience with bookkeeping, payroll, accounting, and/or financial clerical work
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
