Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Customer Service Specialist I for a low-income housing property in Bakersfield. You will perform a variety of duties involved in providing housing assistance to low-income persons under the Housing Choice Voucher and related assisted housing programs. You will assist internal and external customers providing necessary customer support and complaint resolution while ensuring optimal level of customer service.

Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor customer complaints and assist supervisor in effective resolution
  • Provide conflict resolution when incidents arise in the lobby by providing excellent customer service and exhibiting de-escalation skills
  • Act as the landlord liaison educating prospective and current property owners about the Housing Choice Voucher Program, including assisting property owners in providing quality, affordable housing.
  • Acts as the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) liaison by processing VAWA claims and providing assistance to victims in accessing housing programs
  • Logging and tracking all reasonable accommodation claims, processing appeals, and monitoring compliance with the agency reasonable accommodation policy
  • Coordinate and facilitate the landlord advisory and homeless advisory committees on a monthly basis
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for the agency on the HUD website and route contacts as appropriate
  • Serve as the point of contact for the landlord, participant, and applicant

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 2 years of responsible clerical work involving bookkeeping, data entry, and typing or any equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Knowledge of office methods, equipment and procedures; must possess tactful and pleasing telephone manner
  • Ability to meet and deal with people effectively; ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain harmonious work relationships with other employees and the public
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Must possess a valid California Driver License and be insurable by the company's insurance carrier
