We are currently seeking a skilled Housing Specialist in Bakersfield, CA. Under immediate supervision from higher level supervisory or management staff, performs a variety of duties involved in providing housing assistance to low-income under the Section 8 and related assisted housing programs.

Pay Rate: $20.51/HR

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Accept and process applications for subsidized housing; verify eligibility and maintain applicant records.
• Interview applicants and verify income, assets, and housing needs.
• Determine rent amounts, calculate subsidies, and issue Certificates of Participation.
• Assign housing units and manage tenant transfers.
• Conduct housing inspections, reviews, and rent adjustments.
• Maintain compliance records and prepare required reports and contracts.
• Communicate with applicants, tenants, property owners, and partner agencies.
• Perform data entry for housing payments and program tracking.
• Assist with briefings, home visits, and public relations as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least two years of experience in typing and clerical work.
• Knowledge of office methods, equipment and procedures; must possess tactful and pleasing telephone manner; have ability to meet and deal with people effectively; ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures; ability to maintain harmonious work relationships with other employees and the public.
