Job Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing Specialist to join a dedicated healthcare team. This position plays a critical role in the revenue cycle by managing insurance payment denials, conducting follow-up, and supporting both patients and internal staff. The ideal candidate is highly organized, knowledgeable in insurance processes, and committed to delivering exceptional service.

  • Schedule: 8-hour shift, Monday–FridayPayrate: $23.75 - $24/HR DOE

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve denied claims through review, appeals, or reprocessing.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers and patients to resolve billing concerns.
  • Analyze EOBs and correspondence for accurate documentation and action.
  • Post payments, adjustments, and copays accurately in the billing system.
  • Process patient refunds and insurance overpayments.
  • Open, balance, and close daily journals or batches.
  • Respond to billing inquiries via phone or in person with clarity and professionalism.
  • Process credit/debit card payments and send receipts promptly
  • Assist with front desk support when necessary
  • Verify insurance eligibility and update patient records
  • Create or consolidate patient accounts as needed
  • Handle returned mail and maintain accurate contact details

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to handle high-volume calls.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in medical billing, insurance follow-up, or collections.
  • Strong understanding of insurance plans including HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, and commercial carriers.
  • Ability to read and explain EOBs and patient billing statements.
  • Familiarity with billing software (NextGen preferred) and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately..
  • Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and perform clerical tasks.
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, or kneeling.
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for phone and computer-based tasks.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs regularly, and up to 25 lbs occasionally.
