Job Description:
We are hiring a motivated and talented Purchasing Clerk in Bakersfield, CA. The Purchasing Clerk is responsible for supporting the procurement process by ensuring the timely and accurate purchasing of goods and services. This role involves managing purchase orders, vendor communications, inventory control, and assisting with cost-effective procurement strategies to meet the company’s operational needs.
Temp to Hire
Pay Rate: $21.00-$26.00/HR
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
JOB DUTIES:
- Generate and process purchase orders based on inventory needs and requests from various departments.
- Monitor and track the status of purchase orders to ensure timely delivery.
- Ensure accurate and complete information on all purchase orders.
- Communicate with suppliers and vendors to negotiate prices, delivery times, and other terms and conditions.
- Maintain a list of approved vendors and evaluate their performance based on price, quality, and delivery reliability.
- Address vendor issues such as delays, quality discrepancies, or billing errors.
- Assist in reviewing vendor invoices to ensure accurate billing and compliance with purchase agreements.
- Prepare and maintain reports on purchasing activities, expenditures, and inventory status.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Basic knowledge of supply chain and procurement processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 1-2 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or inventory control.
- Experience using purchasing software or ERP systems is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with frequent interruptions.
- Ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
- Lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight.
- Operate office equipment requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
