Job Description:

We’re hiring for a Referral Specialist coordinates the patient referral needs; assisting with patient referrals, provides excellence in customer service; assisting with client referrals to outside service providers; providing support for staff as assigned by suite lead. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Coordinates patient referrals as directed by physician in a timely manner.

·         Obtains prior authorizations as determined by the insurance companies.

·         Assists or schedules the appointment with the specialist, radiology department or surgical center as ordered by physician.

·         Follows up to verify appointment was made and patient kept appointment.

·         Communicates any delays or problems with referrals as needed.

·         Communicates effectively and efficiently with physicians and support staff.

·         Accurately documents all his/her patient care in the medical chart in Epic.

·         Assures the patient has all the information and instructions regarding the appointment or procedure.

·         Is adaptable in altering approach and level of support needed to work effectively with all providers.

·         Consistently maintains quality standards established by health care regulations and guidelines.

·         Promptly notifies the Department Lead and/or provider of any unusual occurrences in the patient or unusual activity in the clinic; follows through as advised. 

·         Consistently follows established safety policies and procedures.

·         Adheres to policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

·         Provides highest quality of customer service.      

·         Other duties as assigned by the Department Lead and/or Administration.

 

Certification:

·         High school degree or equivalent required

·         Completion of accredited Medical Office Assistant Program a plus.

 

Skills/Experience:

·         One year minimum referral experience in health care setting

·         Computer literate (Microsoft Office), EMR experience also preferred

·         Understanding of insurance websites and ability to navigate through

·         Excellent verbal and written English communication skills

·         Understanding of insurances including HMOs, PPOs and Medicare

·         Knowledge of copays, deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses

·         Experience with obtaining prior authorizations

·         Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

·         Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks

·         Ability to calmly and professionally resolve issues with diplomacy

·         Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

·         Highly organized

·         Customer service/patient care experience in clinic setting preferred

·         Flexibility in schedule to include some evenings, weekends and holidays
